Yemen in 2026 is a terror state, firing missiles at Israel and hijacking passing ships. It is split by conflict but every competing faction has one thing in common. They terrorize, torture and murder their own gay population at every opportunity to prove how 'pure' their following of Islam is, staging brutal public executions to distract from the population's poverty, show their power, and send a clear message - Never complain, we can accuse anyone of being gay!

So, why is Yemen such a disaster?

Pre-Islamic times

The kingdoms of Saba and Himyar have no interest in persecuting gay men. The laws are carved into thousands of highly detailed stone blocks and bronze plates. They include laws on marriage, treason, theft, assault, and even water rights violations. There is nothing on same-sex behavior.

This legal evidence documents a period from around 800 BC until 600 AD. Laws show that tribes prioritize bloodlines and alliances over personal attachments. Stories are passed around by word of mouth, so we cannot be sure about the culture, but we are certain that the state does not prosecute gay men.

14th Century: Poetry of the Beloved

The Rasulid dynasty rules southern Yemen from the capital in Taiz. The Rasulids run a lavish, wealthy, and highly secular court, employing court poets to write homoerotic ghazal verses celebrating male beauty.

Collections of Arabian literature confirm that the upper classes hold immunity to enjoy these gay traditions, cataloged in archives at the World Digital Library. The laws forbid same-sex relations for the lower classes, but these laws do not apply to the elites.

1899: The British Arrive

British imperial forces take over the southern port of Aden. They implement the Bombay Penal Code, which introduces Section 377. This is the exact moment formal statutory laws criminalizing same-sex acts are written onto Yemeni soil, replacing local tribal customs with Victorian prison sentences.

Perspective

Militias in Yemen unify to hunt gay men under the mantra of defending Islam from a Western curse. History disagrees. Same-sex relations were always in the region, but terrorists decided it was a new thing that had been invented by the west - like the burger! Amnesty International reports that terrorists rape and abuse suspected gay prisoners in detention. Like the ruling elite of the past, they engage in same-sex activities with impunity, but now you won't hear poetry - only the screams.
